Introduction
Hello there! I’m Bhushith, a fourth year Computer Science Major at the Temple University Japan Campus. I’m a passionate Computer Science (CS) Major, and I also like teaching both CS and Math. I’m also the leader of the Computer Science Society and I work for student success offering all students opportunities, events, networking events, career growth opportunities, and much more.
How I got into CS
I originally got into CS when I first started writing HTML and CSS back in 10th grade. But when I started learning Python, what really got me into it was a mini online Hackathon I did with the project’s theme featuring social awareness abouts mental health. After that, my next project was to try and make an auto-clicker for the Cookie Clicker Game so I could farm cookies (just as a fun, experimental project I don’t mean to break the game nor do I condone cheating). I ended up having to restart my laptop because I never made a quit button, but it was a fun little project that really got me into CS.
Why TUJ CS Society
I always wanted to be active in the CS community at TUJ, but I never got the chance to do something this big until I was given the opportunity to organize and host TUJ’s very first Hackathon. I was mostly involved with clubs, talking to people, and attending a few CS events outside TUJ at the start.
This was a huge opportunity for me, as not only did I like helping people out and this was the big kind of chance I was waiting for. I tried my best and got my foot into the community, organized a fun event. This set for the stage for more events and much bigger events at TUJ and opening up a world of possibilities.
I continued the TUJ CS Society because I know how important it is to have a sense of community at university, something outside classes. Full honesty, I was really bored of just attending classes, spending some time at uni studying, and going back home which was exactly how my first year went. This wasn’t ideal by any means, and I wanted to change that. I wanted to give everyone at TUJ some fun, some cool opportunities to explore what they like, fun challenges, and a lot of other general opportunities to grow their career and network.
At the end of the day, I just like helping people. Anything that lets me do that is something I’m willing to try.
What I do: Passions, Hobbies, Interests
Outside programming, I really enjoy Game Development. It’s one of my hobbies and I have a few games I have in my drafts, but the only I have ever published is a Hotline Miami influenced top down shooter that’s challenging and quite buggy, but it’s my first full game ever: My First Game (Also, something cool is, everything you see in the game, was hand-drawn by me!).
I also do a lot of Pixel Art! I got into it originally due to wanting to do digital art but not having a drawing tablet or an iPad with Apple pencil. I started off using just a mouse and over after 3 years making pixel art continuously, I have gotten decent at it! I now use a drawing tablet, but genuinely, the most fulfilling I’ve felt when doing pixel art was when I used a mouse. Here’s my art account on Instagram:
I also really like teaching, mainly math and computer science, which I do as a part time. For me, it’s not only getting a deeper understanding of the subject, but also sharing the passion with other people. If I can get people to enjoy the subject(s) as much as I do, if it gets them to get into it more themselves, it makes me really happy!
Other than PixelArt and coding, I like to write (as evidence is this blog), I journal and I blog, but that’s mostly about it!
What plans I have for the CS Society
In general, besides more events, any kind of events really, hackathons, career talks, alumni talks, etc., I want to expand the reach of the TUJ CS Society. I not only want it to be an organization within TUJ, contributing to the success of TUJ students, I want it to be an external organization as well, contributing to every students’ success.
Other than that, I want to be able to get the community of students together, help our combined development, and supporting as many people as we can!
