Introduction
Hey guys! I’m Kaori, a Computer Science junior at TUJ. I’m originally from the Philippines, but I moved to Japan seven years ago. When I first came here, I couldn’t speak any Japanese, but I attended a regular Japanese high school anyway. It was definitely challenging, but that’s how I learned the language and adapted to the culture.
How I got into CS
My dream is to become a pilot, but I thought it was important to explore my interests before committing to that path. Computer Science was the most intriguing course at TUJ for me. It’s not because I had any prior experience, but because I genuinely wanted to learn more about it. I grew up playing video games and enjoyed IT classes in school, so even though I had no coding experience and didn’t even own a computer/laptop before starting college, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and pursue CS.
Why TUJ CS Society
I joined the TUJ CS Society because I want to contribute to the CS community and help create a better experience for students. I also saw it as a great opportunity to improve my confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while meeting people with similar interests.
What I do: Passions, Hobbies, Interests
Outside of school, I work part-time in customer service, which has helped me become more confident when communicating with people. I recently got into photography as a hobby, and I also started playing the drums again after a 7-year break.
What plans I have for the CS Society
As for the CS Society, I hope we can make it more than just a place for networking and developing technical skills. I’d love for it to be a welcoming community where people can have fun, build meaningful connections, and support each other as they grow.
